Children are a very crucial aspect of the future of a country. A proper protection of their rights and safeguard of their interests is one of the prime responsibilities of the state. It is for the state to ensure that children are protected from abuse and violation of their rights, and that their well being is safe guarded. There are a number of statutes enacted in Pakistan to protect the rights of children. Furthermore, the constitution has also set a firm benchmark for these rights. Nonetheless, children suffer from many violations of their rights including physical chastisement, hard labour, early marriages, miscarriages of justice in the courts, etc.
It is thus important to analyses the current legislation on the protection of these rights in Pakistan and to evaluate the short comings in order to formulate a work plan to improve the situation of rights of children in Pakistan.
